Join us for our second year at 78th Street Studios for a day filled with creativity, inspiration, and community. The Rustbelt Fibershed Symposium is convening regional voices from across our local fiber and textile community.
You’ll hear from experts within our community as the discuss how focusing on local, natural fibers, dyes, and labor can create unique and vibrant connections, giving this place of ours more life.
Along with our panel of guest speakers in the morning, the afternoon will be immersive and hands-on: learning stations, vendor tables, a clothing swat, and more!
Join members of the Rustbelt Fibershed at Red Cottage Fiber Studio to learn and share knowledge about growing and processing flax. We will have multiple flax breaks and hackles set up for use. Bring your own (retted) flax to process or learn by practicing on local flax which will be provided! Processing from 2-4, then an hour of light snacks and socializing.
Sweetwater is pleased to present our latest exhibition, Folklore: Myths, Legends, and Other Tales from the Crypt. This multi-media exhibition features works inspired by folklore, tall tales, myths, and other stories. Folklore encompasses beliefs, customs, and stories of a community that have been passed through generations by word of mouth. These works are inspired by the other worldly, urban legends, and anything that goes bump in the night. Juried by local artist Genevieve Barbee-Turner AKA Killer Pancake Illustration.
Exhibition on display: May 3 – June 21, 2024
