Community Flax Day

Join members of the Rustbelt Fibershed for a fun and informative morning as we share our collective knowledge of processing flax into linen.

No experience necessary and all are welcome. Just bring a curiosity about this amazing fiber! We will discuss growing, harvesting, rippling, retting, breaking, scutching, hackling, and finally spinning the line and tow fibers into linen yarn.

We will have locally grown flax available for you to learn the process, but please feel welcomed to bring any (retted) flax you may have to process for your own purposes. There will be multiple brakes, scutching stations, and hackles available and you are encouraged to use them for your own processing needs!

This event will occur at Old Economy Village historic site in Ambridge, PA on Saturday, September 27 from 10-1. Our access to the beautiful grounds is generously sponsored by Three Rivers Fiber Focus.
